Pick a palette from your picture

Choosing the right color palette is key for design consistency, creating a harmonious agreement between your image and the added elements.

Choosing the right color palette is key for design consistency, creating a harmonious agreement between your image and the added elements. It can’t be said enough: Consistency works magic for your brand. But with all the colors on the rainbow, how does one narrow down a winning set of colors? Here’s how…

Let’s imagine that it’s time for a brand revamp or a new fall campaign. You have your imagery and now you want to add text and graphics to create cohesive and beautiful designs.

Follow the steps below to pick your palette…

Step One:

Start a new project and import the image that you want to use in your post.

Step Two:

Do you want to add text? A graphic? Or a shape? Select one and the scroll bar below will change.

Step Three:

Select ‘Color’. Then, tap on the color picker and a magnifying lens will appear.

Step Four:

Here’s where the fun begins. Use the lens to explore your image and tap on the circle with the + sign to add a color to your palette.

You want to get a nice range of light, medium and dark colors. Black and white come as a standard to the mix.

Step Five:

When you’re satisfied with your range of colors, tap on the ‘up arrow’ to the left. This will take you to your library of palettes.

Step Six:

Give your palette a name, e.g., ‘Fall Sale’. This will make it easier to find in the future when you have multiple palettes. Save it and set it as default if you are creating multiple designs.

Now, when you add design elements to your images, all you have to do is select ‘Color’ and your palette will appear. Endless creative potential, confined by your perfect color palette!

Top tip: If you’re co-creating in Over teams, you can share your color palette so that everyone can be on the same ‘spectrum’.
